EAST BEACHES & REGIONAL DAY TRIPS
A little farther along the shore.
Stay in Grand Marais and choose an outing that fits your day. Grand Beach, Beaconia, Victoria Beach, Albert Beach, Hillside Beach and Traverse Bay are distinct destinations around Manitoba’s east Lake Winnipeg shore. Kelly’s Chalet gives you a private Grand Marais base for your stay.

Start with Grand Beach and Grand Marais
For a relaxed first day, keep your plans around Grand Marais and Grand Beach Provincial Park. Pack a beach bag, check park notices and leave time to prepare a meal back at the chalet. The village and the provincial park are different places: your accommodation is at 36088 PTH 12 in Grand Marais, outside the park. The chalet does not include private beach access.

Beaconia: choose a specific destination
Beaconia is south of Grand Marais. If your outing takes you toward this community, choose a named public destination before setting off. A community name on a map does not identify a beach entrance, parking area or right to cross private land. Take your essentials, check facilities before relying on them, and build the return trip around daylight and the weather.

Victoria Beach and Albert Beach
These northern beach communities make a separate outing from a Grand Marais stay. Victoria Beach has a seasonal vehicle-restricted area. Check the municipality’s current dates, boundaries, parking arrangements and access information before driving in. Do not assume a map route overrides a posted restriction, or that the same rules apply at every beach. Choose the exact public access point you intend to visit.

Hillside Beach and Traverse Bay
Planning to meet friends or explore farther north? Use a complete destination address in Hillside Beach or Traverse Bay, Manitoba, and check parking and access with your destination. Kelly’s Chalet remains your Grand Marais accommodation. Allow a separate travel window instead of treating these places as a walk from the chalet. The regional tourism directory can help identify current businesses and activities before you make plans.

Brokenhead Wetland and the Scanterbury area
The Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail offers a different kind of outing: a boardwalk, wetland ecology and interpretation of the Brokenhead Ojibway connection to the land. Read the trail operator’s current visiting information before going. Keep to the marked route, leave plants undisturbed and respect closures. Scanterbury, Brokenhead Ojibway Nation and the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead are distinct geographic and community references; use the named trail destination for directions.

Lockport: a separate Red River outing
Lockport is a Red River destination associated with the St. Andrews Lock and Dam and local food stops. Treat it as a planned regional excursion or a stop that fits your journey, rather than a neighbouring beach. Check business hours, public access and your route before leaving. A longer driving day may be a better fit for a multi-night stay than for a short beach afternoon.

Travelling from Tyndall-Garson and Brokenhead
If you are visiting from Tyndall-Garson or another community in the RM of Brokenhead, plan your journey from your actual starting address to 36088 PTH 12, Grand Marais. Check Manitoba 511 for the roads you intend to use, arrange arrival with management and bring groceries or other essentials before seasonal shops close.

Match the outing to your group
Before choosing a route, decide how much walking, driving and time outdoors suits everyone. Confirm accessible paths, washrooms, dog rules and parking with the park, municipality or attraction itself. Bring water, suitable layers and a charged phone. A calm photograph or a forecast is not a guarantee of safe swimming, open trails or lake-ice safety.
